Dynamic energy tariffs are starting to become available to consumers all over Europe. However, it is still much less common for the network tariff (an equally important part of a consumer’s energy bill) to be more reflective of actual, daily changing grid needs and thus dynamic. Yesterday, several 🇨🇭 Swiss dynamic network tariffs, including one combined with energy and with local guarantees of origin, won a special award from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE Watt d’Or jury. Within the European Union 🇪🇺 , it’s the 🇵🇱 Polish DSO TAURON Dystrybucja SA that has just introduced a dynamic network tariff for residential customers.
Interesting to see the different approaches: e.g. Groupe E’s Vario uses 15-minute intervals and, as the screenshot for today shows, can even dip into negative prices. The Azienda Elettrica di Massagno (AEM) SA Tariffa dinamica AEM uses pre-defined time windows, but the prices for these time windows vary dynamically from day to day. Tauron uses a similar approach: according to the Polish TSO Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A.’s Energy Compass, the next day’s hours can fall into one of four categories with different prices.
Combined with automation – EV smart charging, controlling heat pumps and hot water tanks – consumers can make the most of these tariff structures, beat the static tariffs and help the grid. Links in the comments.
