BMW is probably not the company you would expect to offer the most competitive prices on the market. And yet that is exactly what they are doing with their bidirectional DC home charger. At €2,175 in Germany (or even €1,716 in France), they are setting a benchmark for V2G in the market that other products will have to compete with.

With an additional cost of around €1,500 compared to their “regular” AC home charging point, it does not seem unrealistic for the average user to recoup this within the lifetime of the car. Tax benefits or subsidies at national/regional or cantonal (👋🇨🇭) level may even cover it partially or completely.
It will be exciting to see how and with which energy companies this will be offered and compatible. For Germany, the combination with a dynamic electricity tariff from E.ON has already been announced. From the small print, I gather that the service will be available for the Neue Klasse EVs from March 2026.
